From WikiChess

I suck at chess. If i were going to wait until i was any good at it to derive enjoyment from it, i may as well quit now.

I joined the USCF one year, but after blundering against a procession of 13-year olds and what-not, i finished with a rating of something like 1000. I think i understand the game better than that, in terms of book knowledge. But when playing at the board, i'm worse than useless.

I'm presently obsessing over the 1972 World Championship Match Game 6, mostly because it seems the kind of game that's so well-annotated that i could really learn to dig deep in a GM's thoughts even if they're thoughts i'd never have on my own. :)

[edit] Wiki ideas

Seems like a wiki would be particularly well suited to chess, because of the way you analyze a position deeper and deeper, adding to the sum of all accumulated knowledge on it. Maybe we could store positions under their FEN and then talk about them. Hmmm.... i kinda like this idea. Unfortunately patzers like me don't need to be screwing around with openings, but if we did then maybe i'd contribute some thoughts on here.
